Milan-based practice Peter Pichler Architecture proposes a brand-new hospitality concept dubbed YOUNA Nature Resorts. The commissioned development comprises a cluster of flexible treehouses dotting the forested slopes of the European Alpine Region. Each jewel-like cabin is envisioned to emerge from among the treetops with an exaggerated gable roof, reflecting the elongated proportions of the surrounding pines. In this way, the project at once emphasizes and blends into its natural environment.

Each cabin of the YOUNA Nature Resorts concept is designed by Peter Pichler Architecture to evoke ‘a treehouse without a tree.’ The timber structures will take shape as vertical pitched volumes, enclosing spaces which — like the trunk of a tree — are elevated above the ground atop a shrunken base. Describing this design, the architects note that the concept imitates ‘both the archetype gable roof of a traditional tree house and the proportion of the tree it sits on.’

The treehouses of Peter Pichler Architecture’s YOUNA Resort Concept will appear as a cluster of luminous lanterns dotting the Alpine slope. Wrapped in a timber exoskeleton, strong sunlight will be filtered to shade the interiors during the daytime, while at night the structures will softly glow among the trees.

This facade will further serve to reinforce the modular structure, allowing for a highly flexible organization. From the number of floors, the outdoor and indoor spaces, and solid or glazed walls, the interiors will be easily reconfigured from cabin-to-cabin to create a diverse range of types according the needs of each occupant.
