A Cumbrian home technology specialist has won a prestigious award for their work on a house known as the best in the UK.

Majik House of Kendal were crowned winners of the Smart Home Project category at the Northern Design Awards 2022 for their work on a Lancashire home worth £10 million.

The South Lodge in Lytham St Annes is a single storey property, which extends to over 13,000 square feet. It features nine bathrooms, a front entrance with a four meter high single glass pivot door and an Olympic length swimming pool and gym. It was designed originally by North West practice Ben Jurin Architects.

Jit Mistry, sales director at Majik House and project lead, said: “I’ll start by saying that we’re not very big awards at Majik House, and we’re much happier for the quality of our work to do the talking.”

“This was quite an exceptional project and we’ve got to extend our thanks to Ben Jurin and his client for commissioning us to work on such a prestigious development.”

“At Majik House, we’re never ones for entering competitions for our work, although there are plenty that we’re sure would have also won awards through the years, but this one was such an exceptional project that we decided it was worth ‘blowing our own trumpet’ for once.”

The property took three years to complete and has since received several accolades, including being called an architectural masterpiece.

The South Lodge project was chosen from a shortlist of five smart home projects and judges praised the unobtrusive application of the technology while complementing property design, as well as being easy to use by the client.

Jit said: “There really isn’t much that the client needs to control in the property, especially with the lighting scheme which is integrated into the fabric of the building – in reality, the client only interacts with the system when they wish to change a lighting scene.”

“The control of the AV and lighting is through sensors and Control4 remotes. Apart from their iPads, phones and touch screens, there’s not much tech to be seen – no speaker grilles or downlighters are visible in the living areas, and a mix of invisible speakers and subwoofers were deployed to meet the brief and be integrated into the fabric of the building.”

Jit added Majik House would consider entering similar awards in the future.

A Cumbrian farm has been put up for sale for £1.9 million.
